THE OVERLOOKED DEFICIENCY

THE OVERLOOKED DEFICIENCY

I’ve always been keenly interested in researching health and wellness. Just the mere thought of how our magnificently-made bodies functioned was enough to inspire feelings of wonder and awe. Doctors and scientists have long researched ways to make the human body function optimally, and in the late 1980s, that researched uncovered something absolutely incredible, called the endocannabinoid system. Yes, I realize that the endocannabinoid system is a mouthful, so from this point on in the article, I will simply refer to it as the ECS. The ECS, in my opinion is one of the greatest medical discoveries of our time. When I learned through my research that every human being, every animal, and even plants have this system, I was completely intrigued. The more I read, the more deeply I became interested in this “master system” that works with every other system in the body. Although the discovery is relatively recent, I certainly felt that it should have been a major topic of discussion before now. You may have noticed earlier in the article that I referred to the ECS as the master system. The reason for this bold statement is that the ECS regulates processes in your body such as energy intake, nutrient transport, and metabolism storage. It assists the body in entering into homeostasis or balance. It is important to understand that the body naturally contains endocannabinoids. Plants such as cannabis contains what are called phytocannabinoids. The major phytocannabinoids that have been discovered to have the most profound impact on the body are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). THC is the cannabinoid that is responsible for psychotropic effects...

HEMP & MARIJUANA – THE SIMILARITIES & DIFFERENCES

I remember a time when I was like most of the world. I thought both hemp and marijuana were exactly the same with the names were simply interchangeable. They are both cannabis plants…cannabis sativa L. to be exact. However, there are some differences and I’d like to highlight them for you here. Hemp is a tall and very sturdy plant. It is said to have over 50,000 uses! It has been used all throughout history for many different applications such as textiles (rope and fabric), oils, and food. These days it is being used to make cars, building material, nutritional supplements and even a new form of concrete. Because of the strength and sturdiness of the plant, it requires different growing conditions than marijuana. Hemp naturally has a very low THC content and marijuana has a naturally higher content. The maximum THC content for the cannabis to be considered hemp is 0.3%. Marijuana’s THC content is averaging anywhere from 5-20% or more. Hemp plants actually produce more CBD than THC and marijuana plants are the exact opposite, producing more THC than CBD. I found it quite interesting to learn that CBD can actually neutralize the THC “high”. Hemp is mostly a male plant that is generally free from flowering buds, while marijuana is the female plant produced in growing conditions that are good for producing potent flowers and buds. Hemp is grown mostly outside and doesn’t require as much detail and care paid to it as marijuana does with the flowers and buds. I hope this was useful in explaining the difference between hemp and marijuana. Keep checking out...

A CANNABIS REVOLUTION

I know you can feel it. The world is shifting. You are about to witness the greatest revolution in modern history…the cannabis revolution. I admit, that I never thought I would see such a major shift happening in my lifetime, but it is here and it is here to stay. Dr. Sanjay Gupta made worldwide headlines with the CNN special Weed. He is already on Weed 3 and social media is buzzing with what he will share next. I’ll never forget when I watched Weed 2, Dr. Gupta made a statement that stuck with me because I was deeply involved in the cannabis profession specializing in the phytocannabinoid, CBD. He said “Cannabidiol. Remember that name.” He said many incredible things about the cannabis industry and followed many families on their pursuit to wellness through cannabinoid therapy. Millions watched with anticipation as he bravely told the world that he participated in deceiving the public about cannabis and in particular, marijuana. I vividly recall the number of text messages and phone calls I was getting as people who previously laughed at my decision to say “yes” to this profession that chose me, now became intensely interested in what I was doing. Clergymen, politicians, physicians, non-profit organizations and other professionals began reaching out to me to inquire about how they could support the movement to bring back the therapies that have been held away from humanity for far too long. There is still some division among people about the benefits of cannabis, and I believe much of it stems from the unwillingness to release long-held misconceptions that we’ve been taught for so...
